Information About This Free Event

The Department of Educational Technology is excited to host the 22nd Annual School District of Palm Beach County Technology Conference to be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. The theme this year, “Fast Forward: A Decade of Change in a Year” is truly a statement to what we all went through during the pandemic.

The event will be held on the premiere virtual conference platform vFairs! This amazing platform will provide an interactive environment for you to meet other people, visit vendors in the vendor hall, and attend amazing live sessions!

Our Keynote Speaker this year is Thomas C. Murray. Tom is a highly sought after conference speaker who serves as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready Schools, a project of the Alliance for Excellent Education, located in Washington, D.C. He has worked with the U.S. Department of Education, state departments of education, corporations, and school districts throughout the country to implement student-centered learning while helping to lead Future Ready Schools and Digital Learning Day.

Thomas C. Murray

Tom serves as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready Schools, a Project of the Alliance for Excellent Education, located in Washington, D.C. He has testified before the United States Congress and has worked alongside that body and the US Senate, the White House, the US Department of Education and state departments of education, corporations, and school districts throughout the country to implement student-centered, personalized learning while helping to lead Future Ready Schools and Digital Learning Day. Murray serves as a regular conference keynote, was named the “2017 Education Thought Leader of the Year,” one of “20 to Watch” by NSBA, the “Education Policy Person of the Year” by the Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015. His book, Learning Transformed: 8 Keys to Designing Tomorrow’s Schools, Today , was published by ASCD in 2017 and his latest book, Personal & Authentic: Designing Learning Experiences that Impact a Lifetime was released in 2019. Doug Konopelko

Doug is a passionate educator, designer, writer, speaker, and leader. He currently serves as an Education Strategist for CDW where he focuses on acting as a connecting point between people, ideas, and solutions. On his education journey, he has served in both urban and suburban school districts as a teacher, high school administrator, school district instructional tech leader, and state education organization leader. He started his education journey here in PBCSD teaching science at Palm Beach Gardens High School.

Giancarlo Brotto
SMART Technologies

Giancarlo Brotto is a Global Education Catalyst. He engages with government officials, policy-influencing organizations, thought leaders, school system decision-makers and researchers to gain insights and influence trends in the education sector. He is a catalyst for those that don't just want to talk about change but want to do their part to make it a reality. His dynamic, audience-engaging mindset has him regularly facilitating experiences with education stakeholders across the globe. He has served on the informal advisory group for the Skills for Social Progress Project – OECD, sat on the board of directors for C21 Canada- an organization promoting 21st Century learning, founder of GOLA! – a secure place for high-level education officials globally to collaborate and make genuine policy recommendations and is currently the Chair of the Samuel Beatty Fund at the University of Toronto – promoting the study of STEM across the province, member of the steering committee for Karanga - the global alliance for SEL and life skills, Global Education Advisor for SMART Technologies, and Executive Director and Cofounder of Catalyst – an international organization accelerating education transformation by turning ideas into action.

Dr. Darren Clay
US Education, Microsoft

Darren recently joined the Microsoft Education Team as a Customer Success Manager. As a 4th generation educator, he previously served as a school principal after being tapped to lead state-level transformation as a Leadership Coordinator with the Georgia Department of Education. Darren brings K-12 technology leadership experience at all three levels (ES, MS, and HS) in addition to Higher Ed teaching experience.

In his current role, Darren enjoys applying practical and theoretical knowledge gained through the successful completion of his Doctorate at the University of Georgia, where he studied technology integration practices in urban school settings through 21st Century Learning Design. Dr. Stephanee Stephens
US Education, Microsoft

Stephanee began her career as a Middle School Spanish teacher who said ‘yes’ to every tech pilot she could. She held positions as an EdTech coach, and as a district administrator focused on designing and implementing Personalized Learning in the metro-Atlanta area before transitioning into Higher Education. Prior to joining MicrosoftEDU as a Modern Workplace Specialist, Stephanee served as Director of iTeach at Kennesaw State University, where she remains part-time faculty.

Carlos Fernandez
US Education, Microsoft

Carlos Fernandez, Windows Devices Education Executive for Microsoft Corp. He is responsible for the U.S. Education Windows and Devices strategy for K–12 and higher education customers across the South East United States. Through partnerships, programs and technology, Carlos has played a significant role in helping institutions and educators transform learning that makes a real impact on educational outcomes and helps students realize their full potential. Carlos Fernandez has more than 14 years of experience in Education and is proud to have called himself a teacher. He has been at Microsoft for the past 8 years leading the Windows and Devices business winning the hearts and minds of Educators along the way. Making a difference in people’s lives is important to Carlos. His passion to work with others and help them unlock their potential so that they can achieve their goals is undeniable.

Cari Warnock
Dell Education

Cari makes it her mission to find equity wall to wall for all. As a former National Alliance Manager for an Ed Tech company, Director of Magnet Schools in Metro Nashville and in Viera, Florida she holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Central Florida and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Cari served 24 years in public education and previously held positions as Race to the Top Project Director, Assistant Principal, and MSAP Coordinating Teacher. She has written and managed 40 million dollars’ worth of grants and worked with a diverse set of stakeholders.

Gaynell J. Lyman
Advanced Learning Partnerships, Inc.

Gaynell Lyman, M.Ed.’s career spans over two decades in K-12 public education systems in Vermont and Virginia. Previous roles include physics and chemistry teacher in a 1:1 environment, district level specialist for instructional technology, associate principal, and principal. Currently, Mrs. Lyman is the Director of Innovative Learning Systems for Advanced Learning Partnerships where she gets to amplify the work of educators across the country who share her passion for innovative learning, engaging teaching, and inspirational leadership.

Everything will take place in our vFairs environment located at TechnologyConference.palmbeachschools.org After registering for the event, you will be able to log into the platform starting on October 13th, 2021.
No. Everything takes place right in your browser. We recommend using the Google Chrome Browser for best results.
While best viewed on a computer, you can join the conference from any device. All sessions will take place on YouTube, so they will play on every device.
Starting October 13th, you will be able to access the conference website. Click the login button on the conference website to access the platform and look around. Login with the username provided in your confirmation email. If you can not locate the confirmation, login with the same email address you registered with.
The event site will open on October 13th for you to look around and also make sure your profile is fully up to date. To update your profile, log into the event, and click on your name in the top right corner. Then click on edit profile.
Once you log into the platform, you can get help deciding which sessions to go to or which vendors to visit by going to the information booth. When you are in the info booth, you will see conference information on the right side. Click that to start chatting with our amazing support team from the School District of Palm Beach County’s Department of Educational Technology!

If you are getting a session that is blocked while you are at a Palm Beach School’s site, make sure you are logged into YouTube (top right corner of YouTube) with your School District email address. Attendees from other school districts will fall under their organization’s IT filtering rules.To see if you can access our videos the day of, please check this link.

Then, in order to chat with the presenter and other participants during a session, you must click the “Create a Channel to Join the Chat” button. Then put in your first and last name and click Create Channel. Refresh the page and you should now be able to chat. You will also need to chat if you would like to be entered to win a prize.
